Daily life on Taste of the World Madagascar
A typical day on the program is cooking in the kitchen or teaching and discussions in the classroom with various topics, challenges around food, food cultures and traditions. Study trip to Outside we like to cook on the grill, cooking pit, campfire or camp stove. Madagascar requires that we’re in good shape, so during the school year we include time for both hikes and training sessions and various activities like cycling, beach volleyball and disc golf, to name a few.
The program requires no prior knowledge about food, but it would be a big advantage if you love food and like to stay active.
Study trip: Madagascar
Madagascar is a fascinating island with unique nature and wildlife. Over 90% of the animals and plants here are found nowhere else in the world, including the iconic lemurs and baobab trees. The island also has beautiful beaches, rainforests and mountain landscapes that become part of the study trip.
Malagasy cuisine is known for dishes based on rice, spiced with vanilla, ginger and coconut milk. The country grows coffee, vanilla, cloves and rice, among other things, and is one of the world’s largest producers of vanilla. Food is one of the most important things we have on the planet and the contrast from our abundance in Norway to the primitive life in Madagascar couldn’t be greater.
During the study trip we’ll learn to make Malagasy food, but we’ll also cook and serve food to the local population. Madagascar’s diversity makes it a very special destination and the trip will include experiences you won’t find anywhere else in the world. You’ll get the chance to snorkel on one of the world’s longest reefs!
